Leader Rob Denson held a warm up weekend of ice climbing for the Edmonton & Red Deer Section ice climbers on December 8 & 9, 2018. Bringing together climbers with various experience, ages and abilities for 2 days in Jasper. We all stayed at Maline Canyon Hostel and couldn’t wait for the weekend adventure to begin.
On Saturday morning we started out bright and early hoping to be the first to get to Maline Canyon and we were! The challenge was getting in to set up our ropes as the ice was thin in the Canyon.
We decided to rappel into the Canyon which is always a fun way to start out your day! This always challenges my mental toughness for sure and taking that first step is an accomplishment in itself.
After a full day of climbing we had a wonderful potluck dinner together at the hostel. Storey telling and climbing tales were exchanged all evening.

Sunday morning, we hiked in to Kerkeslin Falls and what a beautiful site. Rob quickly went to work to set our ropes with lead climbing and the fun began. Every time I didn’t think we could go higher-we did!

4 ½ pitches later was an amazing feeling of accomplishment-at the top!
Rob did an amazing job of ensuring all anchors were set properly and all climbers were safe. You definitely need to be a group that can work well together and support each other all day. And we did.
I considered it an honour to be with such a great group of climbers. An adventure that I will never forget and hope to repeat soon!
