Waiver
The Edmonton Section uses the annual Release of Liability, Waiver of Claims, Assumption of Risks Agreement (the “ACC Waiver”) required by the Alpine Club of Canada (ACC). A Member must have a current ACC Waiver in place to register for and participate in ACC activities.
Edmonton Section trips continue to require signed ACC Waiver for each participant, including members and non-members. When non-members are permitted to participate in an ACC activity, they will be required to sign the ACC Waiver as a condition of participating.
The ACC Waiver is available for completion the first time the member logs into the ACC national member portal, and a copy is available for view, download, and print here. Your ACC Waiver will apply to your participation in all ACC activities for 12 months from the date you sign it.
All adults must sign their own ACC Waiver, and a parent/legal guardian must sign for a minor member. By signing the ACC Waiver you will waive or give up certain legal rights, including the right to sue for negligence, breach of contract, or breach of the Occupiers Liability Act of claim compensation following an accident. PLEASE READ THE WAIVER CAREFULLY!
Emergency Response Plan
Some types of trips, including large volunteer-led courses, long hut-based trips, and remote backcountry camps, require an emergency response plan. Please review the Emergency Response Plan Policy.
Incident Reporting
ACC encourages trip coordinators and participants to report incidents and near misses that occur during ACC activities. Reporting helps the ACC Safety Committee identify trends, share lessons learned, and improve safety across the club.
If an incident occurs on an ACC activity, please notify the ACC National Office by submitting the Online Incident and Near-Miss Reporting Form:
Submit a report:
https://form.jotformpro.com/form/51876462414964
For guidance on reporting and additional safety resources, please visit the ACC Mountain Safety page:
https://alpineclubofcanada.ca/mountain-safety/
For serious incidents (e.g., fatality, disabling injury, or incidents likely to involve legal action or media coverage), trip coordinators must also notify the ACC Executive Director immediately by email at ed@alpineclubofcanada.ca in addition to completing the reporting form.
Incident reporting supports the annual Accidents in North American Climbing (ANAC) publication, which shares lessons learned to improve safety for the climbing and mountaineering community.
Trip Coordinator Orientation
The section will occasionally host an orientation session to help aspiring trip coordinators understand the roles and responsibilities, club policies, what makes good leadership, and to share trip management tips. Orientations are meant to be interactive discussions with Q&A where we share collective experience and learn from one another.
