The Alpine Club of Canada’s spring section forum was held in Canmore from May 29th to June 1st, 2025. It was hosted by the National Office and attended by representatives of all sections across Canada. Participants stayed at the ACC Clubhouse, while sessions were conducted at the historic opera house.

Thursday night kicked off with dinner and a trivia contest. Friday morning started with two workshops, where sections broke into groups. The first workshop was focused on member and volunteer engagement. The second workshop was geared toward giving feedback on the clubs’ proposed new leadership and training programs, designed to provide training to more leaders at a lower cost on a broader range of activities. Stay tuned. In the afternoon, the group went on a walk, with a twist. Rocky Mountain Adaptive brought down equipment used to allow individuals with physical challenges to experience the outdoor trails. We took turns using this equipment on our walk along the Bow River.

Saturday morning, the focus shifted, where the National Office provided updates on what is currently happening within the club and all the initiatives they have on the go. Most Board members provided updates on their various committees. In the afternoon, the Board and section representatives engaged in a strategic planning session. The day ended with the AGM.

Sunday ended with a day of fun. Participants could choose one of three activities: a hike up Sulphur Mountain, rock climbing on Tunnel Mountain, or via ferrata near Grotto Pond.

Overall, it was a fun weekend and nice to meet and exchange ideas with people from other sections. It was also great to see how committed the club is to ensuring the strength of each section and providing opportunities to members across Canada to enjoy the outdoors.
