ALSO KNOWN AS GLOBAL WEIRDING WEEK 2017

Our week of sillyness began on a Sunday morning in Blue River, BC. Strapping boxes of food, kegs of beer, duffels of clothes and two sombreros to large toboggans, we got ready to sled into our home for the week: Snowy Mountain Lodge.
Preparing to tow in
After several mishaps involving lost sombreros, we reached the end of the good road and send the sleds ahead without riders. Setting out on skins and skis, we shortly caught up to the sleds. The 80 cm of storm snow was making tough travel, and we had to split loads to reach the hut.
Abandoning precious cargo
The terrain around the lodge was fantastic, with some routefinding required to avoid the many cliffs and rolls that characterized the runs. Steve showed us around on the first day, and treated us to a fantastic run called “Gobsmacked”.

Nights spent in the lodge were really enjoyable. Great food and good company in a cozy building! Our after-dinner tradition was to go to the custodian’s yurt and listen to radio chatter from surrounding operations. Steve’s ability to imitate the radio users provided great comedy!

When the Pineapple Express rolled through, we did our best to stay entertained. 40 mm of rain did dampen spirits a bit, but we passed the time and were up in the alpine soon enough enjoying the fresh snow that had fallen there.

More enjoyable post-storm skiing
All in all, we had a fun week away from the city in the solitude of the Cariboos. Make sure to check out our winter camps for next year! We will be announcing these in the coming months!
