Blessed with warm temperatures and generally clear skies, 10 section members and guests climbed in Jasper for two days of easy climbing on June 7 and 8, 2025. For some this was the first of, hopefully, many experiences climbing on real rock outdoors.

After meeting in the Hidden Valley parking lot at 8:00 AM, we distributed ropes and trudged up to the Intermediate Slabs area. After a review of building anchors and setting up top ropes, the climbing session began. Soon enough, everyone was on the end of a rope. Many of the beginners even hopped on lead for the first time outside.

We began packing up a little after 5:00 PM and were back at the cars around 6:30 after a great day.

The next morning we met at the Morro Bluffs parking lot at 8:30 AM and enjoyed the much shorter approach to the bluffs. Everyone was excited and confident after the previous day, so began climbing right away. Three of us climbed what we thought was “Schwarz’s Ladder,” but after the leader couldn’t find the bolted anchor and instead belayed off a tree we quickly realized we were one crack too far. We decided to traverse over and finish up on “Arco Boleino” instead. Perhaps an accidental first ascent? 😉
