Trip Date: 24/25th May 2025

Location: Jasper

May long weekend came with its usual dose of unpredictable weather, forcing a few trips to hit the pause button. But climbers are nothing if not resilient, and it wasn’t long before the next adventure was set in motion! With a promising forecast in hand, five of our members packed up their gear and dashed off to Jasper for a weekend of rock, rope, and revelry.

Arriving outside the holiday rush had its perks—the elusive Snaring campsite was ours! This tucked-away gem sits beside the Snaring River, offering a peaceful base and quick access to the crags along Highway 16. Plus, if anyone needed an emergency snack run, Jasper town wasn’t far away.

First-timers, returning climbers, confidence-builders—we had them all on this trip. Our crew kicked off the season at Cinquefoil Crag, a hidden treasure sitting 1.5 km off Hwy 16, via the Cinquefoil Mountain Hiking Path. Don’t be fooled by the first stretch of easy walking—the final 300 meters ramp up with some steep elevation gain before delivering you to the climbing heaven. But the climb to the crag isn’t just about getting there—once you break free from the trees, take a moment to soak in the view. The Athabasca River weaving through the valley, framed by towering peaks, never fails to inspire.

Cinquefoil is the ideal playground for beginner to intermediate climbers, boasting solid protection and routes that make you think—a perfect launchpad for the season. But it wasn’t just the climbing that stole the show. With wild sheep grazing nearby and nature putting on a performance, crag lunches were pure magic.

At 42 routes, Cinquefoil kept us busy, and huge shoutout to all the setters who have poured their energy into making this crag what it is. You are legends.

The stoke was so high we couldn’t resist coming back for round two the next day—Cinquefoil was calling, and we answered!
